Thank you for your interest in the Castle View High School Dance Program. Dancers provide half-time entertainment at athletic events, perform at various school functions, and represent the school and community at regional, state, and national dance competitions. They also participate in strength and conditioning programs, community service and fundraising activities.

2014-2015 Season Initiatives:
        Developing dance technique, physical stamina and overall health

Important Summer Poms Dates
        Summer practices will begin May 27, 2014 and go through camp in June. Detailed summer schedules will be passed out at the first team meeting.
        Captains: CSCA Conference, June 7th
o   Register at http://cscaonline.org/, $50
        Youth Dance/Cheer Camp: June
        UDA Pom Elite Summer Camp at Regis University:
(Overnight) June 30-July 3rd
o   Home routine performance: June 30th
o   Must attend all summer practices to participate as well as entire duration of summer camp unless discussed with the head coach ahead of time
        Strength and Conditioning Sessions: Attend 75% of scheduled summer workouts
        We will also schedule fun summer community service, team bonding and fundraising activities J
        July is the best time to book family vacations!
        Practice will resume early August with competition choreography (Effective 8/4 for Varsity)

Varsity:
        Pirouettes: Solid 3+ on right, any on left
        Leg pirouettes: Solid 1+ on right, any on left
        Switch leap, center leap, R/L leaps
        Tours/Fouettes (with “and counts” to open) 
        Tilts (tilt kicks, tilt jumps, switch tilts) 
        Extensions: tilts, scorpions, arabesques
        Splits on all sides
        Turning A la Seconde Jump (turning disc jump)
        Jumps: Toe Touch, Calypso, Charge, Herkie, Barrel, Ring Jump

JV:

***Note: Previous season’s dancers are not guaranteed a spot on Varsity/JV and must tryout every year
Attire:
Please dress appropriately – fitted dance attire Bring tennis shoes, jazz shoes, water and snacksall weekNo short bootie shorts without tights
Mid-drift must be covered
No jewelry/No gum
Hair should be tied back and out of your face
Tryout Evaluations:
The Castle View High School coaching/choreography staff as well as qualified external dance judges will judge tryouts. The staff will base their selection on the requirements listed above and will take into consideration the following:
        Dance/Technical Ability
        Knowledge of routine
        Execution
        Showmanship
        Interview
        Overall Tryout/Staff Discretion – Attitude, work ethic, teamwork, professionalism, coachability, participation, image
Spring Athletes:
For those involved in other spring sports that are unable to attend the final audition day on May 8th, please participate in the following:
        Record and submit a video audition tape containing:
o    The technical elements listed above
o   Another video segment of you performing an external choreographed routine/dance (at least one minute long and clearly be focused on you dancing)
        Still register and provide the documentation necessary for audition week
        Schedule and attend an interview session with the head coach

TEAM INFORMATION
2014-2015 School Year:
        All practices are mandatory. But we also realize that life happens. If you have to miss a practice for to a legitimate reason (funeral, sister’s wedding, etc., please clear this with the head coach at least two weeks in advance in writing via email) Dancers consistently missing practices, or arriving late, jeopardize their spot on the team and in major competitions/performances.
        Attendance at all games, matches and scheduled events is mandatory regardless of performance selections:
o   Football/Volleyball – Fall season Aug.-Nov.
o   Basketball/Wrestling – Winter season Dec.-Feb.
o   Pep Assemblies, Back to School Routine, Homecoming production
o   Competitions – Winter/Spring season Nov.-Jan.
        We will abide by the DCSD schedule, CHSAA rules, as well as district wide closures for inclement weather
        Varsity practices 4-5 times per week
        JV practices 3-4 times per week
        Additional practices may be scheduled during competition season but you will be notified in advance.
        Varsity and JV dancers may work with choreographers and instructors throughout the season, and a cost may be associated with this training (approx. $5 per dancer). If this happens, you will be notified in advance.
        Dancers are highly encouraged to enroll in additional technique classes at studios during the season (turns, leaps classes) but these are also optional

2014-2015 Season Competitions:
        UDA Summer Camp (JV and Varsity)
        Spiritfest (JV and Varsity)
        Continental League (JV and Varsity)
        UDA Regionals (JV and Varsity)
        CHSAA State Spirit Competition (JV and Varsity)
        Contingent upon placement at State (top 4 for Varsity):
o   UDA Nationals Competition in Orlando, Florida
FINANCIAL COMMITMENT:
        Dancers are responsible for purchasing their own uniforms
        Team fund raising will cover a part of Varsity competition jazz costumes, but may require additional funding as well
Expenses: (Costs will be kept as low as possible)
Major cost estimates:
        Summer camp - $375 (due May 30, 2014)
        Camp/practice clothes- $200
        Uniforms, team sweats, bags, poms & shoes- $500
        Athletic department non refundable athletic fee for 2014-2015 school year: $150 (to be paid by start of school in August)
        Nationals (Optional/TBD, Varsity only) - $800
In the event that an athlete is removed from the program and/or quits the program, NO REFUNDS will be administered.

TRANSPORTATION:
Dance team members will provide their own transportation to any/all home team events and practices. If not licensed, parents are expected to provide transportation for their child, or sign the proper forms authorizing fellow teammates to drive them. Parents are expected to participate in carpooling responsibilities for the year.

COMMUNICATION:
        Be responsible for all lines of communication and never assume anything. The dancer should communicate with teammates and coaches respectfully and clearly.
        Each dancer will connect with the coaches via social media outlets
        Poms information will only be communicated through email correspondence and online websites (blog and district webpage).
ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY:
        It is encouraged for dancers to maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. average or above
        Dancers must have passed 2.5 units of credit in the Winter/Spring, 2014 to be eligible for the Fall semester
        Transferring students must provide proof of eligibility prior to auditions (with transcript)
        Must continue to pass 2.5 units of credit each quarter to participate in Poms activities and to remain eligible
BEHAVIOR:
        Team members found to be under the influence of alcohol/drugs will face consequences in accordance with the Douglas County Training Rules. Team members are expected to refrain from the use of illegal drugs, alcohol, smoking, etc. Choosing to disregard these expectations in or out of school will result in disciplinary action.
        It is expected that all dancers display appropriate and respectful behavior at school, towards coaches and parents, online, at all CVHS events, competitions, and in the community.
PARENTSParents have opportunities to assist with:
            -Fundraising opportunities
            -Hosting team events (like State brunch, Holiday Party, team sleepovers)
            -Videography and photography
            -Assisting with sewing/costuming/scrapbooking/makeup and hair
            -Cheering us on at events! And any other things you would like to assist with.
