Coaches INFO 5/6/2014

Hi ladies,

So you know, I will be sending weekly "This Week in Poms" emails out on Saturdays or Sunday nights for reminders from here on out. This should help us stay organized. PLEASE read these all the way through in detail when I send them out. I will also be outlining exactly what we need to accomplish in every single practice in order to maximize our time properly in said emails. Some examples of things we will have on the agenda this summer:

-Technique drilling
-Back to School Dance choreography
-Walk ons and walk offs practice
-Captains Voting Session
-Dance research show and tell
-Captain applicants presenting notes from CSCA
-Drill downs
-Back walk overs with Heather
-Showmanship practice
-Theraband flexibility session
-Feedback session from JV and Emily
-UDA Camp prep talk

A few pieces of homework for you-
1) I'd like you all to start researching dance videos in your spare time. It doesn't matter what team it is, whether it is an all star or high school or college team. It could be pom or jazz or hip hop. Be looking for tricks and visual moments that really stand out to you. Please pick three clips by next week's Wednesday practice to show and tell with. Continue to do this over the summer.
The second part to this exercise will be working on our own original tricks and visual choreography- taking normal dance moves and adding different elements to them to make them unique for competition.

2) If you haven't gotten individual goals into me, please type and send to me by next Monday. I still need Kelsey Cambier, Maddie and Caitlyn for this.

Side notes-
1) Can someone please add me to the group text chain? Do we need to start a new one for this year's team only?
2) Please start bringing tennis shoes and practice poms to practice. If you don't have any from last year I have a few in my office (though you will have new white poms for the upcoming season)

I will send a massive "This Week in Poms" email either tomorrow or Sunday.

Starstruck Academy of Dance is holding a dance workshop

My name is Lisa Holtz Odell. I have been in the dance industry for over 30 years and have worked with some of the nations top choreographers as well as dance teams. The main reason I wanted to reach out to you and start “Rocky Mountain Dance Team Workshop” is to help educate dancers on how to dance as a team and to learn different styles of dance for your JV and Varsity teams to be well-rounded. This workshop allows dancers from different high school dance teams to meet other teams and build a relationship throughout the workshop not only with the other dancers, but also with the teachers, Varsity teams will be on Friday June 13th and JV Saturday June 14th 9:00-3:00 pm.
Classes in:
*Pom Technique  *Turns and Jumps  *Hip Hop
*Jazz  *Contemporary Jazz  *Kicks
The teachers at this Workshop are Emily Shock of Nationals Champs (Westmoore high school).  Barry Youngblood (National high school and college hip hop choreographer) Katie Fear (CU Coach top 5 in both Pom and Jazz at Nationals) Natalie Chernow (owner and director of CDP) , Chanel Odell (Dancer and Master class teacher for “Intrique National Convention). This faculty has worked with the nations top high school and college teams whether it is choreographing or coaching. With a faculty like this, there are many different styles of dance and it is a once in a lifetime experience with so much knowledge to be gained.
If you have any questions or would like the early bird discount, please email me at lhodell@comcast.net  or call me at 303-503-0709. Many of you may not have had tryouts yet but you are able to reserve spots for your potential teams.  We also will be offering full team discounts. Please see attached brochure to forward to your teams J

Thank you!

New Coach Press Release

Castle View will be enjoying some top-notch entertainment during the school's upcoming sporting and other spirit events. Their new Poms coach, Stephanie Kroll, is ready to shake things up and take its Poms team to a new level! Coach Steph is a life-long learner in the field of dance who believes in helping young ladies give back to their community, remain humble and respectable, all the while, of course, having fun!

After graduating from Ponderosa High School, and then University of Colorado's Leeds School of
Business, Coach Steph spent almost two years in Los Angeles working with HULU in their advertising department. But her favorite part of the day was the time she spent training with some of the top choreographers, teachers and performers in the country at the prestigious Edge Performing Arts Center. This is the same Edge that is frequented by many A-list celebrity clients, names like Amy Adams, Christina Applegate, Kirsten Dunst, Katie Homes and many others.

While attending CU, Kroll was a member of the CU Express Dance Team, where they performed at
CU basketball, volleyball and football games and other events. She also assisted in choreography for
their national competitions. She even won a third place National Title in Division IA Poms!
Coach Steph also knows a thing or two about high school Poms, as she and her team won two State
Championships while on the Ponderosa High School Dance Team, as well as a fourth place National
Title in the Jazz division.

Kroll is now back in Colorado, and she says of her current goals, "My dream is to train to be a Denver
Broncos Cheerleader and to be an amazing Castle View Varsity Poms coach! I'm so excited to be
coaching at Castle View because of the incredible potential and talent at this school. I've also wanted
to have my own team for a really long time and CVHS is a really good fit for me!" When asked what
she plans to focus on to build a sustainable Poms program, she said:
• developing dance technique, physical stamina and overall health
• producing quality entertainment for the school to enjoy while increasing school spirit
• giving back to the community and helping those in need, fundraising and goal setting
• crushing the competition :)
• teaching the ladies of my team how to represent the school in a humble, classy, respectable and
professional manner while creating fun memories that will last forever!

CV's Athletic Director, Derek Cordes: "Stephanie is a bright young leader with great dance experience.
Stephanie's involvement with the state championship Ponderosa Pom teams as well as her role on the CU
college dance team have generated a great passion and knowledge of dance and school dance programs.
Her involvement and understanding of the continental league and Colorado dance studios are a huge
strength that she will bring to the table as the head CVHS Pom coach. However, her biggest strength is
her passion and understanding of her role as a positive role model for our girls. Stephanie will assist our
Poms team stay on the path of becoming responsible young women and positives members of the Castle
Rock community."
